Why is culture work important?

· FAQ

The answer depends on if you're a missionary or a mercenary leader. If you're a mercenary leader, your 'why' will be your organization's improved financial performance due to your focused efforts. If you're a missionary leader, your 'why' will be your organization's impact on others' lives (your employees, managers, and customers). Being missionary leaders ourselves, at Culture Booster, our 'why' is wrapped up in how unhealthy workplace cultures can negatively affect employees and how others around them feel. This phenomenon is known as the negative spillover effect.

The negative spillover effect is our arch-nemesis. Negative spillover can cause increases in depressive symptoms, poor physical health, difficulty sleeping, and adversely impact family life. Not only does unhealthy workplace culture impact employees, but it also crosses over to negatively impact their families. Our goal is to reverse spillover from negative (unhealthy workplace culture) to positive (healthy workplace culture). When this shift happens, we all win, employees, customers, and families.

How do you know if your workplace is healthy or not? Ask. Real-time surveys are a great way to get feedback about your organization directly from the people who operate within it. The more out of balance your organization is relative to the 7 Core Factors of Culture: Resources, Trust, Meaning, Leadership, Stress, Connection, and Congruence, the greater the friction, obstacles, and challenges you'll face while pursuing your goals. In contrast, the greater your ability to balance the 7 Core Factors of Culture, the smoother your journey will be.

The choice is yours. I'm confident you'll make the right decision.
